For the last 15 years through Professor Gatrad we have been sending equipment to various parts of the world. It all started after the problems in Rumania in the early 90s that equipment from the Manor Hospital was sent for use in operating theatres there. Although the equipment is old and discarded it is always in working order. Subsequently a new Charity called International Hospital relief, was formed with Mr Zaffur Haq of Leicester, Prof Gatrad and Mr John Rostill, the then Chief Executive to the Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust, as Trustees. Equipment was sent to Malawi India Pakistan and Nigeria. The Tobateksingh Hospital in the Punjab has been twinned with the Manor Hospital in Walsall. Both Prof Gatrad and Mr Zaffur Haq have played a huge role in not only connecting with hospitals in the UK that were closing down but also those that were being refurbished. A lot of credit goes to Mr Haq for the collection, storage and shipping of this equipment.
