In 2013 Prof Gatrad was approached by the Mayor elect Councillor Nazir to help raise money for the Mayor’s Fund in Walsall. It took only 10 months, to not only break the record which stood at £42000 over the previous 300 years, but under the leadership of Prof Gatrad a sum of 108,000 was raised for hospices locally in Walsall, this was the final instalment. The Mayor was so grateful that he made a special visit to Gujarat to witness for himself, the excellent work carried out by the Walsall charity MIAT.
